A BEARSDEN couple who met while playing pool in a Glasgow bar have made it to the semi-finals of a competition to win a dream wedding.
Louise Merrin and Fraser McGarrie, from the Boclair area, entered the competition on West FM radio station.
The wedding package - worth up to £11,000 - would cover the cost of everything including the venue, Louise’s dress and even a helicopter ride.
Louise (32) met Fraser (39) seven years ago in the Sports Cafe in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, when she was out with her two younger brothers.
She said: “It wasn’t somewhere that I’d normally go, and I wasn’t even thinking about finding ‘Mr Right’ when they were with me.
“We spent most of the night playing pool, which I’d played a lot when I was younger.”
Some guys on a nearby table asked them to play a game of doubles.
Louise felt it was rude not to, so they spent the next hour or so trying to beat them.
Fraser was surprised and impressed by Louise’s talent and asked for her phone number.
The couple moved in together later that year and had a daughter, Caitlin, who is now three.
Louise, from Ayrshire, said they had always brushed over marriage, but Fraser proposed last Christmas while they were out for a meal at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, in Glasgow.
Louise said: “Out of nowhere Fraser declared his love and said he longed to marry me.
“At first I thought he was kidding, but then he got down on one knee in front of the packed restaurant.”
The couple are now hoping to land the top prize in the West FM wedding competition.
Louise added: “We haven’t set a date as we are not sure how long it will take us to save what we need, so if we won this it would just make our dreams come true to become a proper family.”
