Council wants parents’ views on Primary One hours

A review of the hours of children when they first start primary school is underway with parents being asked to take part in an online consultation.

Currently, children starting P1 in East Dunbartonshire attend school in the morning only until after the September weekend. This has been the case for a number of years with arrangements varying across different council areas.

Education convener, Councillor Eric Gotts said: “It’s important that we listen to what local families have to say and that we continually review everything we do to ensure that we are getting it right.

“In some councils P1 children start full days almost straight away, while others favour similar models to our own. We are giving the parents of East Dunbartonshire the opportunity to tell us what they think of current arrangements.”

A letter has been sent to parents with children already in P1 and to those with children in nursery, inviting them to take part in the survey on the Council’s website using the following link: http://www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/P1hours

Councillor Gotts added: “The survey is short and easy to complete so I’d encourage as many people as possible to take part and give us their views.

“We will take account of feedback when planning for the new school year in August 2015.”

The consultation was launched today and closes at 5pm on Friday 7th November. Although parents are being encouraged to take part online, hard copies of the survey are available from all Primary Schools, Nurseries, Community Hubs and libraries across the area.
