Could you help make Milngavie look great?

Voluntary gardening group Milngavie In Bloom needs helpers to spruce up Milngavie before the judges from Beautiful Scotland arrive.

The town will be judged on the floral displays in the precinct and its general appearance on July 29.

For the past three years Milngavie has achieved a silver medal award and this year they are aiming for silver gilt or even gold.

Vice chairperson of Milngavie In Bloom, Jenny Overton, said: “We would really appreciate some help from the community and businesses.

“You can either come to one of our regular gardening sessions alongside our regular volunteers or you may prefer to find your own time.

“There are plenty of weeds to remove in the precinct around trees and benches, along walls. If you want to contribute here please let Heather Lindsay know of your efforts by phoning her on 956 1317.”

The dates of the regular gardening sessions are: July 8, 18 and 25 at 10am outside the Fraser Centre.

Another way to help us is to be ‘litter vigilant’ as you walk about. The litter picking ‘Clean Sweep’ sessions are being held on July 1 and 18, at 10am, meet at the Fraser Centre. Children are welcome with a parent. Please let Margaret Macbain know by phoning her on 0141 956 3388 and she will look out for you.

There will also be a ‘Wash in’ on Monday, July 27, at 6.30pm when planters and litter bins will be cleaned. Buckets and materials will be supplied including disposable gloves. Children welcome.

Jenny added: “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Milngavie could go one better this year.”
