Clean Sweep team tackles litter blackspot in old bus terminus

A group of enthusiastic volunteers rolled their sleeves up to tidy up a litter blackspot in Milngavie’s old Craigton Road bus terminus at Craigash Road recently.

The team from Milngavie in Bloom’s Clean Sweep division cut back brambles and undergrowth to reveal mountains of discarded cans and bottles.

They filled a council skip and six bins in the three hour stint, and the area much improved by their efforts.

Milngavie in Bloom is a voluntary organisation dedicated to keeping Milngavie colourful by planting flowers and maintaining flower beds.

Clean Sweep was set up as an offshoot group to deal with the problem of litter in the area.

They rely on donations to buy plants, composts and planters and they are always looking for practical help as well.

They have regular “Weed-Ins” and planting sessions which last no more than a few hours.
