Grandparents were treated to an amazing musical journey when they visited The Glasgow Academy Milngavie recently.

The children performed ‘Pirates Versus Mermaids’ in the school hall but they discovered that the seven seas just weren’t big enough for the swaggering pirates and sparkling mermaids!

Scene one was set in ‘Me Hearty High School’ which is a training school for new pirate recruits.

Captain Scarypants was the most gifted student pirate on the high seas however the audience finds out that he can’t swim and neither can any of the other pirates. They have to ask their enemies, the mermaids, to help them.

The pirates set out to find the mermaid caves but they get lost in the fog. Eventually the mermaids find them and after some arguing the mermaids teach the pirates to swim at a pool party.

The pirates soon graduate and the mermaids come to watch the proceedings. Pirates and mermaids might not always be friends but they will always love the sea.

Th grandparents were encouraged to join in with the singing and to wear pirate hats.
