A National Committee has been formed to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Muir – who is known as ‘The Father of Scottish Democracy’.
It brings together academics, advocates, local history representatives and politicians from various political parties, including East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson, Bearsden MSP Fiona McLeod and Provost Una Walker.
A full programme of events has been planned for the year by the Friends of Thomas Muir of Huntershill.
They include a musical performance and speech by Douglas Academy pupils in September during a two-hour reception at the Scottish Parliament. Bishopbriggs Academy pupils will also be performing an original Thomas Muir themed play (ten minutes long).
There is also an exhibition at the Scottish Parliament from March 31 to April 2.
