Can you help youth centre?

Milngavie Youth Centre (MYC) is appealing for volunteers and donations of any equipment such as computers, televisions and other items.

The centre offers the youths of Milngavie a place to meet, play computer games, listen to music and socialise and often organises cycling events and runs a residential summer camp in summer. The centre is also accredited by the Duke of Edinburgh award which allows them to offer young people the opportunity to achieve the award. they can access careers advice, training opportunities and volunteering experiences as well as an extensive outdoor education programme.

The Youth Centre is also working closely with the Milngavie Business Improvement District (BID) with the Christmas lights turn on in the town centre and will be running their Santa’s grotto, which attracted more than 1000 visitors last year, each Saturday from the 22 November until 6 December.

The centre has, in the past 18 months, gone through considerable change and is now established as a Scottish Community Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) and is registered, as was its predecessor Milngavie Youth Cafe, with OSCR.

Chair of the MYC, Gordon McCorkindale has said: “To enable Milngavie Youth Centre to grow and develop a wider range of activities and subjects of interest for our young people we are seeking to recruit volunteers on a broad basis. Accordingly we are looking for people with skills or attributes which they would like to share with our young people. Perhaps you are keen on photography and would be willing to run a course focused on developing that skill among our group. You may have skill in creative subjects. We are also hoping that we can recruit volunteers who might be able to assist our executive group with improving our IT capability. If you are willing to help with the occasional decorating or repair work in the Centre, then we would be delighted to hear from you.”

If you can help with regard to any of the areas above or have unused equipment then please contact Gordon McCorkindale on 0141 955 0180. or email gordon@mccorkindale.me.uk
