The owners of a beauty salon in Bearsden are holding a special event to raise money to fund a holiday for a young girl who has leukaemia.
Sangeeta Sharma, who runs Beauty Zone in Mosshead Road, Bearsden, is hosting a fun and beauty day on Sunday, October 25 in St Andrew’s Church, Bearsden from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
They will be offering hair and beauty treatments. There will also be a bouncy castle, magician, face painting, raffle and silent auction.
This is all in aid of nine-year-old Ellie who was diagnosed with leukaemia in August this year and is currently undergoing gruelling chemotherapy treatment.
Sangeeta heard about Ellie when one of her hairdressing staff asked if they could give her a free haircut and blow dry when she was feeling better.
They decided they would like to do much more than that - they wanted to send her on the holiday of a lifetime.
Ellie’s mum took her to see her GP when she started to get bruises on her legs and seemed to be tired all the time.
They were shocked when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Her mum Angela Monaghan said: “Her white blood cell count was so high that they couldn’t begin her treatment straightaway.
“The average child with leukaemia has about 10,000 white blood cell count, but Ellie’s was 450,000.
“She was given very strong antibiotics, which she responded to, and a few days later she was given a lumber puncture and chemotherapy .
“She is still receiving chemotherapy as she is not in remission yet.
“It would be great to give Ellie something to look forward to.
“She would love to go to Florida.
“She really deserves it as she’s been through so much this year. A holiday will give her something to focus on and get better for.”
If you can’t make it to the fun day but want to donate just drop into Beauty Zone.
