Calling all Milngavie and Bearsden Tiger Woods wannabes

Golf widows are going to have a tough time when a new golfing challenge takes place as they may also lose their children to the sport.

As part of the programme of Legacy events for the Commonwealth Games in 2014, East Dunbartonshire Council and West Dunbartonshire Council are launching an annual Golfing Challenge.

Led by the EDLC Trust Active Schools Team in partnership with West Dunbartonshire Leisure, the Ryder Cup style competition against West Dunbartonshire will take place on 15 September this year in West Dunbartonshire, with East Dunbartonshire hosting the annual challenge next year – around the time the Ryder Cup itself comes to Scotland.

Chair of the EDLC Trust, Councillor Stuart MacDonald believes the competition will be a great opportunity for our young golfers to demonstrate their talent, and a fitting legacy for the sporting highlights taking place in Scotland next year.

He said: “We would like to invite 14-18 year old boys and girls – with a current official handicap who attend an East Dunbartonshire school – to come along to a regional qualifier to try out for the East Dunbartonshire Team.

The qualifier will be held on Sunday 1st September at Kirkintilloch Golf Club, and the closing date for applicants is Wednesday 21 August.”

For an application form or more information call Active Schools on 0141 777 3023 or download a copy from the EDLC Trust website www.edlc.co.uk.

Applications should be returned to the Active Schools Team by no later than Wednesday 21 August 2013.
