A POST-MODERN Christian preacher who delivers much of his ministry over the internet will be the next speaker in the popular Thinking Allowed lecture series at Cairns Church, Milngavie.
John Churcher, an ordained Methodist minister, specialises in supporting those on the edge of church life or those who have fallen away to become members of the ‘church alumni’.
He will deliver a lecture entitled Reading the Gospel Attributed to Mark as Social Commentary on Monday, November 21 at 7.30pm.
Mr Churcher is the current Chair of the Progressive Christianity Network Britain, a charity that works to promote and support open and contemporary Christian understanding.
As part of what he calls his Permission to Speak ministry, he preaches, delivers seminars and workshops and writes articles and books aimed at sharing progressive Christianity beyond the confines of a traditional church pastorate.
His most celebrated book, Setting Jesus Free, was published in 2009. Since then, he has co-authored two short books for individual study and/or group discussion, Through Advent to Epiphany, and From Epiphany to Easter. A third study book in the series is in preparation to cover the period between Easter and Pentecost.
Entry to the lecture is free of charge. The 12th series in the Thinking Allowed lectures got underway on October 27 when Professor Nicolas Wyatt talked on Myth, History and ‘Truth’ in the Old Testament.
