HOUSEHOLDERS have been put on alert following a spate of break-ins in Milngavie and Bearsden.
The culprits have been getting into houses either through unlocked doors and windows or by forcing them open - especially at the rear of properties.
Constable Gemma Currie, from Kirkintilloch police office, said: “We are asking householders to check the security of their homes.
“Make sure all your windows and doors are locked before you go out or go to bed.
“Lock your valuables away and out of sight. If you discover a break-in or attempted one at your home report it to the police immediately and don’t touch anything that may have forensic evidence.
“Call the police immediately if you see anyone suspicious entering or leaving your garden or driveway or your neighbours’.
“Small items such as cash, bank cards, jewellery and electronic goods are generally stolen as they can be easily carried.
“It’s also important to remember that if something is stolen and your property was insecure you may not be covered by your insurance.”
