PUPILS at Boclair Academy in Bearsden won a national competition recently after they gave a power point presentation on the theme ‘why we love languages.’
Julia Weir and Lucy Coates (S2) were awarded £200 worth of Amazon vouchers to spend as their prize.
The Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching (SCILT) launched the contest as part of the European Day of Languages celebrations earlier this year. The girls talked about how learning another language can help form friendships with people from other cultures.
Boclair Academy’s headteacher, Neil Shaw, said: “We are always delighted when our pupils win a national competition and we are keen to promote modern languages as part of our commitment to Curriculum for Excellence.”
Laura Stewart of SCILT added: “We were looking for a clear message as to why people should love languages as well as it being portrayed in a creative and imaginative way.
“The judges liked Julia and Lucy’s collaborative effort and the originality of the format was very appealing”.
