Brainbox pupils competed against each other in a maths marathon at Bearsden’s Boclair Academy recently.

Every secondary in East Dunbartonshire sent a super-bright team of four to take part in the Enterprising Mathematics contest with those selected being chosen because of their expertise and problem solving ability.

They had to complete a round of puzzles against the clock, square off in a nerve-jangling head-to-head round and race against each other as teams to answer tough maths questions.

The eventual winners were a team from Douglas Academy in Milngavie and in second place was a team from Boclair.

Both teams will go on to represent East Dunbartonshire at the national finals at the University of Glasgow in November.

They were presented with a winning shield for the school and each pupil received a trophy.

The winning team is here with Douglas Academy maths teacher Laura Hazelton and Alan Taylor, principal maths teacher at Boclair Academy.

Mr Taylor said: “Pupils were highly motivated and enthusiastic about the variety of challenges and everyone thoroughly enjoyed what was a highly successful venture.”
