PEOPLE in Bearsden and Milngavie are being warned to be on their guard after a spate of phone scams in the area..
Some residents in East Dunbartonshire have been conned by a caller who either pretends to be phoning from their bank or asks for money to be transferred via voucher to receive a larger sum of money for PPI claims.
The criminals have also claimed to be from Microsoft and requested money in exchange for virus software to be installed on their computer. Constable Siobhan McCandlish, from community safety at Kirkintilloch police office, said: “Never give your bank details over the phone or by email, this is not bank policy and they will not ask you to do this. Also, never give out personal details if receiving unsolicited calls and don’t purchase cash vouchers to gain a larger sum of money in return.
“Take time to think, if you are cold called by a person and the deal sounds too good to be true then usually it is. Keep yourself and your money safe and do not get caught out by these scams.”
