The comrade of a bomb disposal expert who was killed in the Falklands War has set up a bank account for donations to help him build a new memorial for his colleague after it was stolen.
Sergeant Major John Phillips (70) wants to replace the bronze plaque which was erected for Staff Sergeant Jim Prescott (37) by a team of men from the Royal Engineers bomb disposal section of the Territiorial Army. They built a bridge, later named Prescott Bridge, on the Allander walkway in Milngavie over two summer camps in 1989/90 and placed the plaque there .
Mr Phillips was horrified to hear that it had been taken from its concrete plinth earlier this year and vowed to reinstate it.
He has set up a Santander bank account for donations number 49833686 sort code 09-01-28.
