Balfron 10k raised cash gift for hospice

ORGANISERS of the Balfron 10K presented a cheque for over £6,500 to local schools and Strathcarron Hospice recently.

Over 600 runners entered Balfron’s sixth annual run this year to be divided between Balfron Primary, Balfron High School and Strathcarron Hospice.

The race director, Colin Mendham, said: “This year the Mulberry Bush Montessori Balfron 10K was even bigger and better than ever, encouraging local runners both young and old to take part and enjoy an active healthy lifestyle.

“The whole community has been involved and has been very excited to see this event on their own doorstep.

“The race has raised over £42,000 in the last six years.

“Our sincere thanks go out to our very generous main sponsor, Mulberry Bush, local business sponsors, the runners, spectators and the army of volunteers who give up their time to ensure that Balfron hosts a very prestigious and successful 10K.”

Balfron High’s principal teacher of PE, Neil McQuarrie, said: “This is a fantastic sum of money that the Balfron 10K is donating to both schools and it is very much appreciated.

“I am always amazed not only at the amount of money raised, but the feeling of community that the Balfron 10K event creates. I

“It is an important fundraiser for us and such commitment from Balfron and the business community is wonderful.
