Armed Forces flag-lowering in Milngavie

The Milngavie and Bearsden branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland held a flag lowering ceremony in Milngavie Precinct on Monday, July 8.

Depute Provost Anne Jarvis and depute Lord Lieutenant Pat Steel attended the ceremony and there was a good turnout of local Legionnaires. Milngavie Pipe Band drum corps, beat retreat, and Ewan Mackay/1st Bearsden Boys Brigade sounded the bugle for ‘lights out’.

Honorary pipe Major, Hector Cruickshank, concluded the ceremony with a suitable Piobaireachd and the flag base was decorated with flowers arranged by Milngavie In Bloom.

The flag was lowered by former leading seaman (Torpedo) Tom Baker, who is currently waiting for confirmation of The Arctic Star award and The Ushakov Medal from The Russian Embassy in London for his service on the Arctic Supply Convoys in 1941 to 1945.
