There was an excellent turnout of members of the Milngavie and Bearsden Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland at the Armed Forces Day flag raising in Milngavie precinct on Saturday, along with supporting representatives of Dumbarton 7 Scots, 51st Highland Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland TA, led by Captain Nick Wheatley.

Dumbarton legionnaires Lee West and Ross Wilson carried the Queen’s colour and branch standard and local scouts carried their Queen’s colour and standard.

East Dunbartonshire Council Provost Una Walker addressed the parade and welcomed everyone.

Dunbartonshire vice Lord Lieutenant Gill Aitkenhead presented the Armed Forces Flag to Provost Una Walker who in turn passed it to the Corporal Flag Raiser while Iain James - band instructor of 1st/2nd Milngavie Company of the Boys Brigade - sounded Reveille.

Armed Forces Week continues until the flag lowering ceremony in Milngavie led by the county depute Lord Lieutenant on Monday, July 8 - all branch members are invited to attend at 6.45pm for 7pm.

The Drum Corps of Milngavie Pipe Band will beat retreat before a bugle call of Retreat and a pipers lament to conclude the week.
