EXCITEMENT is building now that the official route for the Olympic torch has been revealed, including its journey along Drymen Road in Bearsden on Saturday, June 9.

The torchbearers were also announced for the epic distance of 8,000 miles over 70 days through the UK and Andy Boyle (21), from Kirkintilloch, has been chosen to carry the flame along Bearsden’s Drymen Road from Canniesburn Road to Stockiemuir Road.

The torch will be lit in Greece and arrives in the UK on May 18 - it represents peace, unity and friendship as it makes its way across the country and brings the excitement of the 2012 Games to everyone.

Andy, who is studying to be a doctor, was chosen because he combines his studies with running a football team - Lenzie Football Club - for seven-year-old children. It was becoming increasingly difficult to find volunteers to run the junior teams and there was a danger that it would stop running until Andy stepped in.
