MUSICIAN Dave Arcari, from near Drymen, is clean-shaven for the first time in over 20 years.
Loads of folk went along to watch the historic moment he lost his beard at Alice Rocks in Glasgow’s west end last Friday as it’s all for a good cause - Yorkhill Children’s Foundation - and so far he’s raised £1,060.
River City star – and real-life hairdresser – John Comerford gave the bluesman the shave but the ‘first cut’ was made by Dundee lawyer Alison Mitchell who’s name was drawn from the list of eligible folks who have made donations via Dave’s justgiving.com web page.
Dave said: “To make it all a bit more fun I decided that anyone who donated £20 or more and wanted to chop off the long bit of my beard would be entered into a draw to do the dastardly deed.
“It wasn’t such a painful experience as I expected – although the end result is a bit scary. It’ll have grown back a bit before my next live show at the beginning of June!”
Dave chose Yorkhill Children’s Foundation as the charity beneficiary to support the fundraising efforts of Balmaha teenager Ben Fraser who’s been receiving treatment at Yorkhill since being diagnosed with leukaemia last summer.
The justgiving.com page at http://www.justgiving.com/Dave-Arcari0 will be open for another few days – Dave has edited a short video of the event which is on YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/davearcari
