Sex attack taxi driver caged

A sex fiend taxi driver has been sentenced to 18 months for a terrifying assault on a 24 year old woman in Milngavie.

Patrick Cullen (44) pounced on his victim in a secluded lane near Rangers’ Murray Park training ground in February 2011.

Married Cullen, from Moodiesburn, attacked the woman after picking her up in Glasgow in his private hire car.

The assault took place in Finlay Drive, where he pulled in rather than taking the woman home.

Afterwards he dropped her home - and demanded she fork out the taxi fare.

Cullen was snared when a relative appeared on the national DNA database.

Police Scotland praised the pervert’s victim, who bravely assisted officers.

Detective Inspector Alasdair Anderson said: “I would like to pay tribute to the victim of this terrifying assault for her bravery throughout her ordeal, and without doubt, her testimony in court has been vital to his conviction.

“Her courage and strength is to be admired.

“This was a long and complex forensic and police inquiry and every officer working on the case was determined to see this man brought to justice.

“I hope that the conviction of this man will give confidence to other victims of sexual assault to come forward and report it to Police Scotland, safe in the knowledge that officers will vigorously pursue the perpetrators.”
