Singer-songwriter Kris Drever and Eamonn Coyne set to perform at Milngavie’s Fraser Centre
Kris Drever
THE former lead vocalist with Celtic rock supremos Wolfstone and son of Ivan Drever - Kris Drever - is going to perform in Milngavie on Sunday, February 12.
The singer-songwriter will be accompanied by Eamonn Coyne at Milngavie Folk Club in The Fraser Centre, Douglas Street - doors open at 7.30pm.
Having spent his adolescence listening to Metallica and Pantera, learning the guitar and ruining other people’s sessions at the Orkney Folk Festival by playing all the wrong chords, Kris left home for the mainland at 17, eventually gravitating towards Edinburgh’s burgeoning session scene.
The Tron Ceilidh House was then, in the latter 1990s, the place to be, a haven for musicians from across all manner of genres, and Kris was soon playing there several nights a week. Having temporarily switched instruments to the double bass, he subsequently returned to the guitar and began honing the style - a highly individual blend of rhythm and harmony, folk, jazz, rock and country inflections - that now finds him in constant demand as a session player.
Eammon is originally from Ireland and performs traditional Irish music. He has a keen interest in other types of music, including American country, old-time music, and jazz.
Tickets cost £15 and are available from.milngaviefolkclub.co.uk, Milngavie Bookshop, Douglas Street, or Art Forum, Station Road, alternatively phone 07743885991 (reservations only).
