MILNGAVIE based Urbaniks Street Skool of Dance came away with a clutch of medals in The Maximum Dance Championships at The Caird Hall in Dundee recently.

The U14 team, competing at Intermediate level for the first time in this event, were overjoyed to secure first place. An under 10 group also took part and every dancer took home either a medal or trophy.

Honey Joseph (13) taught and choreographered the under 14s at their dance class in the Milngavie and Bearsden Sports Club on Auchenhowie Road.

Her mum Pauline, who owns Urbaniks with husband Paul, said: “We are so proud of Honey’s commitment, professional work ethics and raw skills. She has to balance all her school work, her own dance training as well as her teaching and choreography. Not only is she coping with it, but she is winning every competition that they are going in for.”

Honey has been working with the U14’s crew for the last six months, and in that time has won several titles and choreographed for major festivals, including the prestigious ‘Go Dance’ at The Theatre Royal.

Pauline added, “The dancers all had to battle hard to get ‘call backs’ and progress through rounds, gaining them places in the finals. And every single dancer took home medals and trophies. No one came home empty handed, what an achievement!”

Urbaniks have been at the Milngavie and Bearsden Sports Club since last October and teach boys and girls from aged three to professionals. For more information go to www.urbanikstreetdance-glasgow.co.uk
