A BOOK written by popular Bearsden children’s author, Julia Donaldson, has been made into a film to be screened on Christmas Day.

The author, also the creator of The Gruffalo books, is delighted that the specially commissioned animation of ‘Room on The Broom’ is a true interpretation of the original picture-book.

As the feature with a witch, a broomstick and a jealous cat, which lasts half an hour, has escaped the trend to create children’s films with computer generated imagery (CGI).

It has also made it to the coveted lunchtime slot on December 25.

Julia Donaldson, who is the Children’s Laureate, said: “What is so lovely about the film is the way they have kept true to the story and the look of the book.

“My books are poems really, and to my mind they are a fixed entity.”
