Milngavie celloist Seylan scoops Critics' Award

TALENTED Milngavie musician Seylan Baxter was part of a group which scooped the prestigious Critics' Award for Theatre in Scotland prize for the 'best use of sound and music in a theatre production'.

The Rowantree Theatre Company's production, 'The Lasses O', opened with Seylan, Lillias Kinsman-Blake and Rachel Newton performing.

Seylan played the cello and electric cello and the judges commented that the show thrummed with music from start to finish.

They were impressed with the way the music accompanied the action, provided backing for the songs and created a soundtrack to the whole performance.

But it was for the skill, wit and the style with which it was done that the judges decided to give the award to The Rowantree Theatre Company.

Seylan said: "We were thrilled and honoured to get this award. This was only the second theatre production I have been involved in, before this I worked on Beauty and the Beast at the Dundee Rep.

"It was a pleasure to work with Lillias and Rachel and the whole production team from the Rowantree Theatre Company.

"The music we created was very much a team effort so thanks to everyone involved."
