Douglas Academy pupils in the musical spotlight

THE Music School of Douglas Academy took the spotlight as the Kilmardinny Music Circle presents a showcase of prodigious talent.

As part of the Young Artist Spotlight Series, local youngsters are given the chance to perform on the same billing as a whole host of professional artists.

In October, talented french horn player Diana Sheach, newly arrived in S6, rehearsed and performed with the Royal Conservatoire Brass group, while S5 clarsach player Ruaidhri Irvine — this year’s National Mod prize winner — played alongside with the Fejes String Quartet last month.

And this Friday, the Stirling Branch of the National Youth Choir of Scotland will invite Douglas S5 student Rachael Sulaiman to perform a dazzling display of marimba playing to accompany their festive concert.

Other notable performances at Kilmardinny include pianist Steven Osbourne performing a brace of both Schubert and Beethoven arrangements in association with the Milngavie Music Club.

Furthermore, one of the leading classical guitarists in the UK Allan Neave will also appear before singer, and former Douglas pupil, Jamie MacDougall performs accompanied by pianist Kenneth McKellar.

Tickets for this Friday’s concert are priced at £10 and £5 for students. Attendees under 16s will be admitted for free if accompanied by an adult.
