EVER since she was a child, Milngavie woman Marie Clare Friar has written profusely. She used to write short stories and take them into school to let her teachers read them, and they always praised her efforts.
Now Marie Clare (22), of Dumbrock Road, has had her first book published, a love story based in Glasgow called Love So Sweet.

A graphic designer by day, Marie Clare (right) started writing it in her spare time and before she knew it she had produced a novel.

She said: "I was surprised that I ended up writing a love story first because I prefer writing fantasy. But this story just came to me so it made sense to write it all down.

"It's a nice simple romantic novel with a bit of humour in it."

One of Marie Clare's favourite authors is Cecilia Ahern, the daughter of Ireland's Prime Minister, and she aspires to write in a similar style to her.

Marie Clare said: "Her novels are fantastic, she combines drama and humour with love. Her debut novel P.S I love you, has just been made into a film. She is a real inspiration to me, because like me, she is only in her twenties."

Marie Clare, like so many writers, had several rejections before Arena Publishing agreed to publish her book and it's now available to buy at Amazon and Waterstone's, priced £9.99.

And the graphic design company that she works for, In Position Media, designed the cover.
