MULTI-AWARD winning rock band Arctic Monkeys have released their new single at Oxfam Bearsden and Milngavie.
The charity stores — more used to selling second hand Cliff Richard records — were part of the nationwide promotion of the band's new single Crying Lightning.
The limited edition seven inch vinyl record is the first single from new album Humbug an
d and features a cover of the Nick Cave classic Red Right Hand as a b-side costing £2.99.
Each single comes with a download code allowing fans to get an MP3 version of the songs for free.
This is the first time since the release of the Band Aid single 25 years ago that Oxfam shops have sold a new release single.
Caroline Robertson, manager of the Bearsden shop, said: "Music fans from all over Bearsden and Milngavie love to dig through our collections of donated music to find hidden treasures, and they'll be delighted that they can now pick up something as exciting and exclusive as this from their local shop.
"Even better, every copy sold, and every record donated to the shop, will help us raise money to fight poverty around the world."
Oxfam sells around £6 million of music every year, enough to provide safe water for 8 million people, so Arctic Monkeys, and their record label Domino, are using the launch to encourage fans in Bearsden and Milngavie to bring any unwanted albums or singles to Oxfam when they pick up their copy of the single as well.
