People urged to get their nose in a good book

BEARSDEN MSP Fiona McLeod has been taking part in Book Week - the first ever national celebration of reading in Scotland.

She has given away copies of My Favourite Place, this year’s Book Trust sponsored free read to local care homes.

The book is a collection of stories and recollections from famous Scots and people who love Scotland about their favourite place.

Ms McLeod said: “As a life long librarian I am a strong advocate for reading and how important it is that children are encouraged to read from an early age.

“So I was an obvious choice to help give out copies of My Favourite Place.

“I have decided to deliver the books to local care homes and sheltered accommodation, but am aware older arthritic hands may find the pages difficult to turn, so it was great to find out My Favourite Place is also available in an audio format on the Book Trust’s website with Kindle and e-reader versions.”

If you are wondering what to read next and struggling with making the decision why not ask one of the League of Extraordinary Booklovers?

The League is a band of book-lovers based around Scotland, whose mission is to share their passion for books and make reading recommendations to people around the country during Book Week Scotland.

Lindsay Burton from Milton of Campsie is a local representative - contact her through www.theleague@scottishbooktrust.com
