THE community of Westerton Parish Church were celebrating this week following the official opening of their new church hall.

Work on Westerton Fairlie Memorial Hall has taken 10 months to complete and during this time the members of the community have had to use a smaller hall in Crarea Avenue nearby.

This hall has not been ideal for the various community events which the community has organised.

A dedication service was also held as part of the official opening.

Marlene Anderson, the Session Clerk at Westerton Parish Church said: “We have waited quite along time for this and have been actively planning it for about four and a half year now. The dedication was by our minister, the Reverend Dr Christine Goldie, and the Very Rev David Lunan preached and dedicate the new hall.

“It was a beautiful day and we were joined by MSP Fiona McLeod, and two of the three councillors, Keith Small and Manjinder Shergill.”

Mrs Anderson said the opening of the hall will provide accommodation which will enable the whole community to benefit.

The cost of the project was funded through transferring the land that the old hall is on to local builder Martin Sim, who built the new hall as payment.
