Western Wildcats 13
Greaves Clydesdale 2
Subway National League Division 1
THE resumption of the outdoor league saw Wildcats totally overwhelm the inexperienced visitors to Auchenhowie on Saturday.
And with Great Britain player Graham Moodie back in their ranks, they were superior in all areas.

Wildcats made the early running but it was Clydesdale who went ahead in nine minutes from a solo breakaway and stinging reverse stick shot.
Wildcats' Joe Simpson equalised from close in a minute later, and goals from Scott McCartney and Dougie Simpson within four minutes set the tone.

McCartney added another from a corner conversion a couple of minutes befor half-time and Andrew Sewnauth made it 5-1 going into the break.

More of the same followed on the restart with Clydesdale conceding six goals.

After Moodie had made a forceful break down the right McCartney fired home the resultant cross. He then converted two more corners and tucked away a Dougie Simpson pass to take his tally to six. Sewnauth and Gary Maitles were also on target in this spell. The southsiders had no answer.

Fully utilising their substitutes to maintain a stranglehold over a tiring team, further goals came from Abbott and Maitles late in the second half. Clydesdale's successful conversion of a corner with two minutes to go was inconsequential.

Western Wildcats 5
Inverleith 1
Subway National League Division 1
WILDCATS were comfortable winners on Sunday, but had to work much harder for the points against an Edinburgh side on a winning five-match run.

Inverleith took an early lead, capitalising on a misdirected pass in defence to set up an easy tap-in.

Wildcats' response was immediate when Joe Simpson was the victim of a clumsy challenge in the circle in the ninth minute and McCartney converted the resultant penalty.

Gradually Wildcats exerted more midfield influence, although keeper Kris Kane couldn't relax with sporadic raids by the Edinburgh team.
After the interval it became fiercely competitive, with some unsavoury challenges from both sides.

Wildcats then began to pass the ball more accurately to stretch the Edinburgh team's defence.

Following a superb movement involving McCartney and Dougie Simpson, Donald Abbott scored from close range.

McCartney added a third four minutes later from a corner.
But Inverleith regrouped to stage a series of raids to force three corners in rapid succession. Wildcats' defence was equal to the task though, with Chris Mitchell and Vishal Marwaha cool under pressure.

Fitness became a vital factor with Wildcats stretching the Inverleith defence regularly.

In 65 minutes McCartney added their fourth, adding a fifth, his fourth, just on the final whistle.

These two victories keep Wildcats at the top of the division but they face a stern challenge tomorrow (Saturday) when they play Grange at Auchenhowie. And on Sunday Menzieshill provide the opposition in Dundee in a Scottish Cup quarter final tie.
