PARTICK Thistle have landed a tough draw in the coming season's Challenge Cup — an away fixture at Airdrie United, the tournaments's holders.
This match will be something of a revenge mission for the Jags, as they were put out last year in the semi-finals by the Lanarkshire club.

The game is due to be played on Saturday, July 25 but one well-known Thistle player who will not feature will be defender Simon Storey who has left the club after failing to agree terms.

Aussie Storey was a fixture of the Jags' defence last term and pulled on a Thistle jersey 83 times since he joined at the start of the 2007/08 season.

Jags manager Ian McCall said: "We had offered Simon a new deal but, as is his right, he was looking for a little more money and wanted to consider his options.

"With it unclear as to whether Simon would sign a new deal we made the decision to take the offer off the table and allow him to pursue what other options are open to him.

"He leaves Firhill, however, with our very best wishes. He is an excellent professional and in his two seasons at the club gave us excellent service."

As a replacement, Thistle have signed 31-year-old defender Martyn Corrigan, who will officially join the Firhill books on Tuesday.

Corrigan started his career with Falkirk before having a spell in Finland with FC Jokerit before returning to Scotland and Falkirk and then Motherwell.

He made 250 SPL appearances for the Well before moving to Kilmarnock and, most recently, Ross County.

McCall welcomed him, saying: "I'm delighted that we have managed to bring Martyn to Firhill. I actually tried to sign him, and offered a lot of money to do so, when I was manager of Dundee United. When I previously tried to sign him he couldn't have been too far away from a Scotland cap.

"At 31 if he stays fit them I'm confident that we can get a number of years service from him here at Firhill."
