PARTICK THISTLE were left cursing their luck as they passed up a golden opportunity to make ground on league leaders Dundee on Saturday.
The Jags drew 2-2 with second-top Queen of the South at Firhill on Saturday after having led the match twice.
And while Dundee were held 1-1 at Inverness, Thistle manager Ian McCall knew his team missed a chance to eat into the Taysiders' lead, wh
ich is now 11 points over them.
McCall now wants to see his team take three points from their home match against Morton on Monday.
He said: "We missed an opportunity at the weekend. We have shown that, despite not having as much money to spend on players as other clubs, we can challenge for the title.
"We did it last season and that is our aim this season as well. But we have to take every chance that comes our way if we are to do that and the game against Queen of the South was definitely a chance missed.
"I'm naturally very, very disappointed that we didn't manage to win the game but I am also very proud of the way that my players played.
"Some of the football that we played was simply terrific and I feel that we deserved more than just a point from the game. We have scored twice and had other umpteen chances to score more.
"In many ways the chance that Paul Cairney had at the start of the second half where his shot hit the inside of the post and rolled along the goal line before being picked up by David Hutton epitomised how the afternoon went for us. The draw was a result that really suited neither team."
The match against Morton will be played in front of the BBC Alba cameras and will be shown live on that channel, with the kick-off at 7.45pm.
Meanwhile, while the temperatures are expected to be rock bottom on Monday night, there will be an exotic air to proceedings as the Morton match will have a Spanish theme, in honour of departing assistant manager Gerry Britton.
Firhill legend Britton — nicknamed the King of Spain by fans — is leaving his position at the club to train as a lawyer and the Morton game will see all stadium announcements made in Spanish and Spanish music will be played over the PA, while fans have been asked to come along wearing sombreros.
There is also a Spanish menu in corporate hospitality at £30 per head.
