TENNIS aces from two Bearsden clubs scooped trophies at the West of Scotland Veterans' Open Championships at Scotstoun, Glasgow.
Monica Stewart, from Thorn Park Tennis Club, won the 40 and over singles, while Marlene Waudby, from Bearsden Tennis Club, won the ladies' 55 and over singles title.
In the doubles competitions, Marlene teamed up with club-mate Dorothy Gordon to t
ake the 55+ trophy while Monica partnered fellow Thorn Park player Claire Ryan to win the 40+ competition.
Monica, from Bearsden, said: "It was good fun. I won the singles last year, so I was defending my title.
"We both won a cup for the doubles, where we beat Suzanne Mcinteer and Mary White, and I won another one for the singles.
Monica, who works at the Glasgow veterinary school, added: "Since the invention of artificial grass tennis is now an all year round sport. As long as there is not snow on the court, it is possible to play almost anytime."
John Beeley, tournament director for the West of Scotland Veterans' Open Championships, said: "This is a great result from two clubs in the area. The two clubs suspended their friendly local rivalry to celebrate jointly their successes.
"The tournament for age groups 40 and over, 55 and over and 65 and over is open to players from all over the UK.
"Although the majority of entries were from the west of Scotland, there were players from all over Scotland and from south of the border too."
The indoor event is now in its 10th year and the standard is high with several competitors playing in veteran age group county teams while a few have gone on to represent Great Britain.
