COUNCILLORS voted 10-9 in favour of a deal that will see 550 houses built in Milngavie and Bearsden - and Allander Leisure centre demolished.
East Dunbartonshire Council agreed to the controversial Kilmardinny development proposal at a closed-door meeting on Thursday night.
Scottish Government reporter Janet McNair set a deadline of Friday for the decision, saying she was minded to grant the appeal by CALA and Stewart Milne against the council's refusal of permission for the houses, retail park and business units.
Councillors had overturned their officers recommendation to grant the application and this decision was appealed against.
There has been huge opposition to the proposals - including a petition signed by more than 5,000 people.
