AN action-packed family fun day is promised at Westerton's 10th annual gala on Saturday.
Events kick off at 11.30am with the Gala Queen's parade along Maxwell Avenue departing from Glasgow Porsche and arriving in style at Westerton Hall at 11.50 for the official opening ceremony at midday.
Queen for the day, Louise Bishop, will be acc
ompanied by attendants Kara McLean, Anna Dow, Jeanna Brown, Rachel Chalmers and Aisha Choudry and following the official opening ceremony the bouncy castle will open and competitive events will include bungee football and whacky races.
Olympics
Since it's the year of the Olympics the gala will feature the first ever Westerton Wii Olympics at the tennis club where entrants can compete in four events on the big screen — or challenge friends and family to a one-on-one competition.
Also new for 2008 is a seven-metre climbing tower and a chance for visitors to try their hand at archery.
A craft fair in Westerton Hall will feature a range of stalls, from local handmade cards and jewellery to Fairtrade foods from around the world.
Teams of eight are required for tug o' war at 2.30pm in competitions for adult and children and families are encouraged to sign up to tke part on the day.
For sustinance during the day there will be a burger bar in Westerton Hall and a tearoom in the Brownie Hut.
Organiser Scott Ferguson said: "We hope this year's gala day will include something for everyone — from local crafts to modern technology, and even a baby race! There's a real sense of excitement when the flags go out along Maxwell Avenue, and it will be great to see people getting together to celebrate their local area."
